My name is Noah Myrick, and I am an entering junior in the fall of 2021, who has been involved with sports since I was 5 years old. My parents taught me at an early age the importance of responsibility, hard work, dedication, and most importantly, being that person who my teammates can count on - always.
I was introduced to wrestling at a young age, initially finding it easy which made it fun. I left the sport for a period of time, continuing to participate in other sports programs, but realized, when I entered high school, that I needed to return.
It did not take me long to figure out that wrestling was my passion – I wanted to work harder and longer to be the best that I could be from the start and more than I had wanted to in any other sport. My freshman year, where I started out competing on Junior Varsity, ended with me earning a spot on the Varsity roster and finishing the season placing at Districts. From that point my goal had been identified
I continued to be a multi-sport athlete through my sophomore year, wrestling, weightlifting, and playing football however, recently I realized that if I want to not only be the best at the high school level but also earn a spot afterwards in college that I needed to do more than everyone else. Everyone goes to practice during the season – I need to do more. Everyone works out – I need to do more. With that in mind – I decided that I needed to wrestle year-round and not just during the season. I needed to work out, weightlifting and conditioning year-round and not just during the season. I needed to make wrestling and my dream my top priority. I needed to focus on wrestling, my technique, and my knowledge, not just during the season all year. My parents told me I needed to come up with a plan and with their help I now wrestle with my club and my school year-round, 5 days a week, plan to participate in as many tournaments and camps as I can, and workout 6 days per week. My goal is clear, and I have put a plan in place to meet that goal – to be a Florida state wrestling champion and to wrestle in college.
Through all of this, I have not lost sight of my education. In fact, the lessons I learn through the dedication I now have to this sport has made me a better student – where I continue to maintain a strong GPA with a schedule that includes a strong mix of Advanced Placement and Honors programs. I know that wrestling will end someday but will use what I have learned from my coaches and teammates to ensure that I can continue to be successful beyond the mat.
