Personal Statement

I have many goals for college and after college.  I aspire to go a college and study for a degree in automotive mechanics or maybe even something in construction like carpentry or science at the same time. After college, I plan to enter OTC (officer training corps) for the Marines when I get my bachelor's degree and potentially become something like a combat engineer if I get a degree in automotive, carpentry, or both. I am very certain that one or both of these degrees and the knowledge I learned from them would help me greatly excel in training, duties in and out of combat, and in service of my country. My experience in wrestling in high school and college would also greatly help in training, even out of training if it ever comes to it-in hand to hand combat. Without a scholarship, my aspirations would be hard to complete. I would be a top candidate for your team because of my past experiences and training, both with wrestling and weights.  I first started wrestling when I was about 7 and did it for almost a year until problems at home forced me to quit. Then I started again with friends with a semi-private trainer for 11 months or so through my 8th-grade year until the owner was forced to close down the gym. The high school I went to through half of 9th, Indian River Charter high school, had no wrestling team- any sports teams in general. I eventually left that school at the beginning of the second semester as I had begun to loathe almost everything about the school, and I began school in Vero Beach high school. Due to me coming in so late in the year I couldn't join the Wrestling team, and I was forced to wait until this year to begin. I have already started off strong and I will most likely be beginning on the varsity team. For weight lifting, I got about the same start. I started lifting around 7 and did it for almost 2 years until I had begun to really dislike my coaches and fellow peers at the private gym. I started again in 9th grade at charter and they had a really good gym and coach and I went from barely being able to bench 70 pounds and squat 105 to squatting, benching 170 and squatting 301 in only a year. My goals by senior year are to be benching 370 and squatting 500, goals I am confident I will fulfill. What makes me different from other candidates is my will of steel and my motivation to do as best as I can- even if I don't succeed; I will always try again. When my father was still in this world he was third in the state of New York in high school/ college and me, with all of my will, am confident that I will top that with him smiling down upon me the whole time. But without your help, none of my dreams, aspirations, and skill will be able to be exercised in college and in future life.
