Personal Statement

My name is Torin Forsyth, graduating class of 2023 at Blue Valley Southwest in Overland Park Kansas. I have been wrestling since I was 8 years old and struggled at first but was the hardest working on and off the mat and in the gym.

The Blue Valley Southwest (BVSW) high-school team I am currently part of is highly competitive under Coach Cody Parks. BVSW is a multiple State placer and Academic All-State winner.

Off-season/summer training for 2022: Training started just after High School season ended in March in preparation for UWW Las Vegas in April where I was able to All-American in Greco. The summer schedule included Freestyle/Greco State, 3 Regional Tournaments, Southern Plains, and Junior National Duals totaling well over 50 matches. Something else to note "if it's any consolation" I beat 4 Fargo All-Americans this summer. Practice and weight training have been intense (No less than 4 times a week on the mat and 5 times in the weight room). Practicing mostly with former teammates currently wrestling in college(197/Hwt-D1 at Mizzou); (184lbs-D2 All American at FHS); (197/Hwt Pratt).

Individual Accomplishments over the past 2 seasons:
- 2021 195 Kansas (KSHAA) 5A Regional Finalist
- 2021 195 Sunflower State Games Folkstyle, 1st Place
- 2021 195 Cadet State Champion in GR/FS
- 2021 195 Cadet Dual Team - Kansas Team 1 GR/FS
- 2021 220 KC Stampede All American (90+ teams)
- 2022 SMN Invitational, 1st Place
- 2022 Beloit Invitational, 1st Place
- 2022 220 Kansas (KSHAA) 5A State Finalist
- 2022 92 kg (U17) UWW Greco, All American
- 2022 220 Black and Blue, 1st Place in FS
- 2022 220 Fight or Flight, 3rd Place in FS
- 2022 220 Ultimate Freestyle Tournament, 1st Place in FS
- 2022 220 Junior Freestyle/Greco State, Finalist in GR/FS
- 2022 220 Southern Plains, 2nd Place in FS and 3rd Place in GR
- 2022 220 Junior Dual Team – Kansas Team 1 GR/FS
- 2022 Junior/Senior Academic Awards (Honorable Mention)

I compete off-season in Greco-Roman and Freestyle wrestling. Named most improved wrestler in the 2020-2021 season and have many goals and will strive to achieve those through hard work and dedication. I have been very incremental in my development over the years on the mat and in the classroom and feel like my trajectory is up and to the right and have not come close to peaking. I like to be challenged. What I think is important is a great program that elevates my capabilities. E.g. Culture, Coaching/Leadership, Competition, Accountability, Education/Grades.
