My name is Harry Tompkins and this is my wrestling story. I am a junior at Severna Park High School in Severna Park, Maryland. I found my love for wrestling a little later in life. A bunch of my football buddies invited me to come and try out for the wrestling team my sophomore year of high school. On the first day of try outs I fell in love with the sport. I came home and talked about my first day of tryouts to my parents, nonstop. My dad bought me a 10x10 wrestling mat and I spent countless hours shadow wrestling and practicing shots. For the first half of my sophomore year I wrestled J.V. and went undefeated. I was moved up to Varsity for the second half of my season, and I only managed to win 1 out of 16 matches. During the off season and summer break I worked out 4 days a week with the football team and 3 days a week in the wrestling room with my coaches. I also attended wrestling camps throughout my summer break. My junior year of high school, I returned to the wrestling mat with a new purpose. I was the Varsity heavyweight all season long. I went 30-10, placed 3rd in my county, 3rd in my region, and wrestled at the state tournament. Though I did not place in the state tournament, it was a great experience. Next season is a new story.
