My name is John Baloyot currently a Senior at Valley High School of Las Vegas, Nevada. I'm a Student Athlete for Wrestling and Football, that has managed to balance two sports for the past three (3) years. I had joined wrestling in my freshman year 2016-2017 and knew nothing about the sport. It was a bit rough at first, that I started off with 0-11. I have a mindset to train harder and master the skills needed to wins. I started to place in tournaments that my Freshman year ended with 32-11. My Sophomore year i started to progress. Placed 2nd place in the 4A Regional Tournament that qualified me to wrestle at The State Championship. Summer arrived and was selected for Team Nevada that really shocked me, being that i had only wrestled for two years. My experience in North Dakota first year with Team Nevada was just amazing. I told myself “ I want to do this again”.
The love and passion has grown stronger for the sport as the upcoming season approaches. My Junior year I placed 2nd place at the Regional Tournament and qualified me for The State Championship that was hosted up North a few miles from Reno in a small town Winnemucca. It was a tough season. I ended my Junior year with 104-32. Now my Senior year has arrived and my goal is to make State Championship, and place for Nationals on a Collegiate level. I know what it takes to be a top wrestler. The hard work needed mentally and physically. It’s a grinding, grueling sport, that makes people such as myself passionate. While preparing for the Pocatello Invitational in Idaho. A coach Marvin Bright told me and my fellow teammates “ When you are out on the mat, you’re alone. If you lose there is no one to point the finger”. When i'm on the mat i know what is needed to win.
