Anyone who appreciates wrestling knows that Western Pennsylvania has always been a hotbed for the sport. That's why making the podium at the Westmoreland County Coaches Association Tournament (WCCA), as both a Freshman and a Sophomore, was such a pivotal moment in my career. I feel that I learned a lot about my wrestling style, and what I am capable of achieving when I put 110% effort into everything I do.
The thing I love most about wrestling is that the lessons you learn in the room translate extremely well to life outside of the room. From the lesson I learned in the WCCA tournament, I realized that if I put that type of effort into everything I do, I will achieve a lot of my life goals. I have been learning lessons like this since I started wrestling. I started wrestling in first grade, but I didn't always love the sport. As a second grader, I got so frustrated halfway through the season that I thought about quitting. It took some conversations with my parents and coaches to convince me to stick it out for the rest of the season. I am truly thankful that I did. My parents and coaches have always been there for me, teaching me how to be the best person I can be. I love that about this sport.
Some areas that I have been working to improve upon, and will continue to work at, are the mental side of the sport and continuing to improve my physical strength. I think that every athlete, regardless of the sport, can not afford to let either of these areas slip. The coaches that I have had through JO's, Club, and high school have all reinforced the importance of being strong both physically and mentally.
Other people consider me to be humble, clever, determined, hardworking, perseverant, and a leader. I personally feel like I am all of these things, but I also feel I am too humble at times to avoid being arrogant. I take calculated risks, and am not afraid to try new things. I am looking for a program that will work with me to help me continue to be the best I can be both on and off the mat, and will provide me with a challenge both academically, as well as in athletics. I know I have the skills to be a valuable part of your program, and continuously strive to achieve every goal I set, as well as exceeding the expectations people set for me. I look forward to what the next step holds for me, and opportunity to compete at the collegiate level.
