Since I was a small child, I have dreamt of being a college athlete. With college in the near future I can see the vision become clearer. As a three sport scholar athlete at my high school I believe that that my best years are ahead of me, both academically and athletically. As part of my vision, I would like to attend a college where I can carry on my athletic career but, most importantly, that provides me with a great education so I may attain my goal with my college degree.
My parents instilled in me at an early age that respect and the caring of others are the most important traits that one can have. I live my life by the Golden Rule and in turn it has aided me in my life in a diverse area such as Northern Virginia, which I call home. Volunteering my time at a local Catholic thrift store as a teenager has shed light on me that people are not as fortunate as me and my siblings. Sorting donated clothes and unpacking non – perishable food provided me an opportunity to help others in need. This work setting and the experience has helped me develop emotional security, stability, and confidence in myself. I have transferred this to my athletic and academic practices.
School has as always been an important part of my life. I enjoy going to school each day and learning something new and challenging. This was the reason I decided to enroll in advanced placement classes. The classes are challenging by reading and writing on a college level as a high school student. Most students in my grade would rather take an easier class, but I am up for the challenge at becoming prepared for my future in college. This is one of the reasons I chose to attend Osbourn Park High School and the Biotechnology Magnet Program instead of my base school. The curriculum is very thought-provoking and offers up the opportunity to study advanced math and science over my four years of high school. So far the challenge is paying off for me by accomplishing scholar – athlete status with over a 3.0 grade point average.
In athletics, the combination size, strength, quickness, and determination set me apart from others at the high school level. My sophomore season in wrestling was successful because I was determined to be in the best physical and mental condition than anyone I faced on the wrestling mat. This thinking paid off by making the Virginia 6A State Wrestling Championships in my first year eligible for varsity wresting. Listening to my coaches and learning from them and respecting their every word help me persevere. A disciplined approach will assist me as I move forward in my high school career. I have a never quit attitude and always strive to be at my best, as well as respecting the people who are always pushing me to be the best. This is why I feel that I am a person that anyone can count on and want to have on their team. This is what separates me from the rest!
