My high school baseball career has taught me so much about how to be a better person both on and off the field. For the first time in my life, I spent my sophomore season in 2021 sitting on the bench playing behind two upperclassmen on varsity. While I was extremely disappointed I wasn’t able to contribute more to help my team win, I used the experience to drive me to be a better player and teammate the following year. I spent the off-season playing as much baseball as possible while, at the same time, training to get bigger, faster and stronger. I wanted to leave no doubt to my coach that I was the best catcher on the team. The hard work paid off. I beat out the teammate that started over me the previous season and started every game. As the starting catcher, I was able to gain the trust and confidence of my coach and helped lead our team to the 2022 Division 3 Sac Joaquin Section Championship. This has been the greatest accomplishment of my young baseball career.
When it comes to athletics, I have been blessed to have a number of quality coaches. From little league, to travel ball, to high school, they have taught me to play the game the “right way” and to be accountable for my actions. They provided me with tough love, which has given me a thick skin and an understanding that, by being hard on me, they were making me a better person and player.
My goal entering college in Fall 2023 is to receive an education and, if I work hard enough and perform to the best of my ability, play baseball. I believe my adaptability in any situation and my perseverance through challenges makes me a good candidate for any team. What makes me stand out from other student athletes is how I was raised. The importance of academics was instilled in me from a very early age. I’ve always known I could be the best baseball player in the world, but it doesn’t matter if I couldn’t get it done in the classroom. My parents ingrained in me that nothing is given in life. Anything truly important in this world has to be earned. They have taught me to live by the mantra, "NOBODY CARES…WORK HARDER!" Complaining about life’s challenges is a waste of time and energy. No one is going to feel sorry for you. With this mindset, I know I have what it takes to help lead any team I am on.
