  • March 8, 2018 To Whom It May Concern: My name is Preston Vancil and I am the associate head baseball coach for American River JC. I am also the head instructor at MVP Sports Unlimited, which is a baseball training facility in Sacramento, CA. It is through MVP where I first had the pleasure of meeting Thomas and his family. I have been working with Thomas for the past 3 years on all aspects involved with his pitching. He has shown tremendous growth, especially within this past year. He has always possessed athletic tools, but now we are seeing his mental talents rival his physical skills. He has really grasped the ability to make pitch by pitch adjustments, the importance of pitch execution vs. strictly having good stuff, and is learning the subtle nuances of being a true pitcher and not just a good arm. He has a four-pitch mix: fastball (both 2 & 4 seam), change up, curveball and a developing cutter. They are not just quality pitches, but he knows how to use them and is learning how to set hitters up with them. It has been a true joy to watch the “light” go on for Thomas this year. He has fully embraced the importance of training and preparation as it pertains to on field success. His attention to the small details is what I truly believe has allowed him to grow the most. He is hungry and driven baseball player, but even more then that he is an outstanding person. In our interactions, he has always been respectful, exceptionally hard working, and engaged in whatever task I give him. It is in my opinion that Thomas would be a tremendous addition to any organization. I could not give him a higher recommendation to your program. If there is anything else that I can help with or elaborate on in aid of Thomas, I would be happy to. Please feel free to contact me. Sincerely, Preston Vancil (916) 396-1032 American River College Associate Head Baseball Coach
  • Athletic Performance Program
  • 1 year
  • March 9th, 2018 - Thomas Age 14 yrs - My name is Aaron Grinstain and I’m the owner and head performance coach at Hyperthrive Athletics in Sacramento. We first started working with Thomas Meyer last June during our Summer Athlete Performance Program. As most young athletes in the Junior High and early High School age range, Thomas came to us pretty raw and still figuring out how to properly move his body through different movement patterns. This can be intimidating for a lot of kids but Thomas came to the gym every day hungry to make progress and compete. He was extremely coachable and responded to instruction quickly. We have a high-energy program and we like our athlete to have fun, but we also have high expectations of them as individuals. Although Thomas was one of the youngest in the group, he showed leadership ability through his attitude and actions. From a strength and performance perspective, Thomas made huge changes during the 3 months we worked with him. He went from minimal control of bodyweight movements to solid technique with weights and made noticeable improvements in his sprinting, jumping and rotational power. Here are the improvements he made numbers wise in two main lifts, the Barbell Back Squat and Trap Bar Deadlift. We are sticklers for technique so these were both performed with quality form. Squat: Started with 30lb Dumbbell Goblet Squats, by the end of summer he was Barbell Back Squatting 135lb. Trap Bar Deadlift: Started with 45lb Kettlebell Deadlift, by the end of summer he was Trap Bar Deadlifting 225lb. Thomas is a leader, a competitor, and would make a great addition to any team.
