I am self-driven, competitive, a hard worker, and a great team player. I am respectful to all who play the game especially my coaches and teammates. I am a leader on the field. I believe there is always room for improvement and I am always looking for ways to improve my skills so that I can play at the next level. I believe you practice like you play. Academically, my goal is to graduate from high school with a 3.5 GPA or higher. I plan to attend college and play baseball while obtaining a degree in something related to sports like an athletic trainer.
I come from a very small town and school. When I started junior high, we did not have a baseball team. There was a young man who had moved to our community who had been an avid baseball player. He wanted to start a baseball program and asked me to play. He started working with me and we were able to create a program. Upon entering high school, there was not a baseball program. I had asked the Athletic Director if we could get a baseball program and she said that she would try, however she was not successful. This past summer I took it upon myself to find a way to play baseball in high school. I was not able to get enough boys to play for a team, but I had 5 boys that wanted to play. I prepared and proposed a speech to my school board in order to get permission to seek a co-op program with another school district. Once I was granted approval, I then prepared and proposed another speech to the Georgetown school board. At this time, unofficially, I am told that we will be playing for Georgetown as a co-op program.
I have been running on my own and completed my first 5K yesterday (August 31). I placed 5th overall.
With the help from my cousin, we have developed a Hiit training program along with weight lifting 4 days a week. We will meet at 5:30am on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays starting September 2, 2024.
I would like to include something that sets me apart from most athletes. This is the will and drive to play. I am not your average player. When I was 13 years old, I was playing summer baseball. I had slid into third base and started having problems running the bases. My mom, dad, and I thought I had just pulled a muscle, but the condition continued to worsen. My mom was waiting for me after a game that we had lost. Coach had us running because we had not played well. Even though, I could hardly pick up that leg, I ran with the rest of the team. After I got to the car, my mom did give me a choice but told me we were going to go see a sports physician. The next day I was seen by the physician who treated the University of Illinois athletes. I had xrays and a MRI to find that I had to have emergency surgery for a slipped capital femoral epiphysis (SCFE). The physician could not believe that I had played on that for 6 weeks and never complained of pain. I had surgery on July 2, 2022 at 9am I was in surgery. I was on my way home that same day by 5pm. The surgeon told my parents that I would not be able to play any sports for at least a year. It was my 8th grade year and I was determined that he was wrong. I changed my diet to focus on bone healing, I had the therapist give my exercises to complete at home, and I went to baseball practice every day even though I could not play. I beat the odds and the doctors released me to play in September 2022. Since this experience, my drive to play and seek ways to improve my skills has become even stronger. I will do whatever it takes to continue to play the game that I love.
