Ryan Canfield '20 Recruiting Profile

    I am a 5'5'' sophomore from Downers Grove South High School. I started on my freshman team as a utility player, playing shortstop, second base, third, and left field. Sophomore year, I got hit by a pitch and broke my thumb in the third game of the season and had to have surgery. Even though I was injured, I continued to support my teammates by going to all the games and practices doing whatever the coach wanted me to do, whether it was doing the book, scoreboard or just cheering on the team. I was supposed to be slated as mainly a relief pitcher and center fielder, I was also going to play some middle infield as well. I am a fundamentally sound baseball player, always working on perfecting my mechanics. I am a solid contact hitter and run the bases well. I give 100 percent all the time. I hustle on and off the field, and am always the first person to the field and the last to leave. When I am in the outfield, I keep my throws accurate so that they can be cut off if needed. In the infield, I have good mechanics and a strong arm. I understand when to charge a ball or when to wait back on a hop. When I pitch, I locate my fastball well and have a good curve and decent change-up. I have been playing baseball since I was 5 years old and have had aspirations of playing baseball in college. I will support my team no matter what my role is.

    Lastly, I want to be able to attend a college where I can play baseball as well as pursue a degree that interests me.
