My name is Taylor Fuerst and I am student-athlete looking for an opportunity to continue my academic studies toward my pursuit of becoming a Doctor of medicine while playing collegiate baseball at the highest possible level. One interesting fact about my life is that I have grown up in a baseball family. My dad is a high school baseball coach and has been my travel baseball coach since the age seven. With this relationship comes higher expectations from fans and family and a certain level of pressure that I know has made me stronger and more mentally tough than my peers. For this reason, I feel that I perform my best under in pressure games and situations. Recent examples of this were my 2 for 4 performance in our school’s Regional Championship game and going 1 for 3 against a nationally ranked travel team at Ozinga stadium.
Another characteristic about me is that I am not the tallest or biggest athlete on the field, but I have always found a way to persevere and compete at an elite level. I have been able to do this by setting frequent goals and working toward those goals whether they be physical goals in the weight room or statistical goals on the field. Finally, I feel I have a special ability to stay focused and always feel more mentally prepared than my competition.
Finally, when I was younger my dad was diagnosed with cancer. This made me realize to avoid taking things for granted in life. Each day is an opportunity. You can waste it or make the most of it. If there is a coach out there willing to take a chance on me and provides me with an opportunity to pursue my academic dreams while playing collegiate baseball, I can assure you that I will work every day to earn what has been given to me.
