I was not a natural athlete, a confident kid, or a particularly popular classmate. I know what it's like to be bullied and teased - and I learned how to overcome through dedication to athletics and a commitment to hard work. I learned the skills through hard work, year round training, and mental preparation; eventually making the varsity team as a freshman. Baseball has become a part of my life and I want to continue playing in college.
Initially, I was the kid who barely made the competitive team and had to earn my place on the field. I chose to work all winter to make sure I did not sit the bench rather than move to a less competitive team. I never gave up. I brushed criticism aside. I stayed focused. Eventually I became a starting pitcher and utility player; 3b, 2b, and outfield. I even earned MVP which was a highlight for me.
I attend a small Christian high school but train as if I am playing for a larger school. I am honored to start and play varsity ball as a freshman. The coaches felt I earned a position on the field and I currently play 2nd base and also pitch 1-2 innings per game. Being humble is a big part of getting support of my teammates - some of them were not happy a freshman took their spot on the field.
Brotherhood on the team is important to me. I remember what that feels like to be the weakest player on the team and I make a point to be an encourager during practice and on the field.
Right now I am smaller than most of the varsity players which requires I play the game strategically; especially when I am pitching. I hold my own as an infielder and I concentrate on the accuracy of my pitching. I know more speed will come as I grow and my body matures. Routine weight and physical training is a year round part of my routine.
Academically I have a 3.98 in a college prep school, take honors classes, and rank 6th in my class. Math and science are my strongest subjects.
My personal motto is Start Strong, Finish Stronger and it has been the key to my success in both academics and baseball. I want to use my life lessons, athletic skills, and academic gifts to be a contributing player to a college baseball team.
Thank you
