He has smooth rhythm, fires the barrel with quick hands and connects with pop, engaging his lower 1/2 well. He has great zone awareness and doesn't swing at much that he doesn't like. Behind the plate, he sits in well with athletic actions and flexion tracking pitches into a soft mitt. Transfer is clean as he replaces well and puts accurate throws on the 2B bag. • Scouting Report: Marcus is 2024 catching prospect out of the Midwest who is an advanced defender with power profile as an offensive player. Behind the dish Marcus stands out for his advanced feel for receiving with a strong frame and good mobility he sets up low with a solid base allowing for his strong wrists and soft hands to move the baseball efficiently on borderline pitches with ability to stick pitches in the zone and handle breaking pitches. He has the projection to be an advanced defender with impact potential. Offensively his strong frame presents a power profile where his swing plays with bat speed, a path geared to drive the baseball in the air, a feel for the barrel that allows him to get to his low 90 mph exit velocity consistently. He has HR power to the pull side and potential to use the big part of the field for impact. Marcus is an intriguing prospect in the 2024 class at a premium defensive position where he will stick and power potential on the offensive side.

  • 05/23/2021 - Official College Recruiting - Sauget (St. Louis), IL Marcus is a class of 2024 Catcher prospect. He shows off a good frame and athletic ability. Behind the plate, he shows very good actions. Good footwork on his throws to 2B. Throws were on top of the bag and his pop times were as low as 2.10 seconds. Receives well and has smooth actions. Blocks well and shows the ability to move laterally. Deadens the baseball when blocking. At the plate, he hits from an athletic stance. Short stride and quiet load allow him to consistently get his barrel on plane. Shows off some bat speed and late bat whip through the zone. Works to all fields when hitting. Does a good job getting his lower through the baseball. Marcus is a talented young prospect that we hope to see more of in the future.
