My name is Mathias Mason, I have only been playing the sport of baseball for roughly 1 year and 5 months. Even so, I have learned far more within this short time span and always work hard to accomplish my goals. My dream is to play baseball in the MLB, and there is nothing I won't do in order to accomplish my dream, and become great. Before baseball, and still to this day, I have been playing soccer for around 14 years. During that time, I never could truly say I had a strong passion to go farther in life with the sport other than travel ball. However, within the first 3 months of me playing baseball as a catcher, I've learned to love the sport and everything it entails. I am a hard worker, and a strong leader for any and all teams that I play on, because I believe that great leaders create more leaders, not followers.
I never started practicing until my 9th grade year in high school, with zero prior experience or knowledge of the sport whatsoever. I was not a starter for my team, and often times I found myself being subbed out constantly and put into the outfield because I was a liability behind the plate. At first, I greatly disliked catching within the first 3 months of doing so, but as time progressed training any chance I could get, learning more about the game, slowly getting more playing time, I learned to love the position and the sport. Even in times where I make mistakes, or mess up a play, I'm always keeping a level head and raising team spirit.
I know full well that I am behind the competition when it comes to experience and talent, but I have grit. I am a quick learner and I take advice from anyone in order to grow both as a player and a man. I believe that God has placed this dream deep within my heart, and knowing that I will pursue it no matter what trails or challenges I face. The odds stacked against me do nothing but add more joy in the journey it takes to being great, and I see it as nothing but motivation to get better if I'm surrounded with those that are better than myself.
