Matt Mueller '20 Recruiting Profile

I’m a student of the game and I play the game they way it’s supposed to be played, with passion, leadership, teamwork and a desire to learn and get better every day on the field.

2019 - During my junior HS Season we got to play for the Massachusetts D3 State Title, but lost.  I split my time between DH and Starting Catcher.  During my positional starts, I hit .353 with a 1.123 OPS, however I struggled in my first stint as a DH role as I completed the regular season hitting .200 with .718 OPS.  In my role as a starting catcher I threw out 33% of the runners trying to steal.

For my 2019 AAU Travel season with the 17U GBG Hawks, I split my time Catching, as a DH, and playing OF.

Due to my HS season running long as we played for the State Title, I was only able to play in 20 of the 29 games. In those 20 games, here were some of my key Team rankings:

• 2nd in OPS (.769)
• 1st in OB% (.445)
• 5th in Slug% (.324)

• 1st in BB
• 2nd in 2B
• 2nd in HBP
• 6th in AVG

2018 - As the Starting Catching and #5 hitter in my first full season with the 15U Garciaparra Baseball Group (GBG) Hawks AAU Travel Team, I was 3rd in the entire 30-team league in doubles (7).  I hit .294 for the season (which included a 1-for-21 stretch), which placed me 5th on the Team in hitting.  I was also T4 in hits (20), T1 in doubles (7), 2nd in RBI (17), T2 in Stolen Bases (11), and 4th in Runs Scored (15).

For the 2019 travel season, the GBG Hawks bumped me past the 16U Team and onto the 17U Blue Team.

Under the guidance of the GBG staff, I’ve spent the entire off season in the gym 4-days a week and I’ve put on over 20 pounds in my effort to become a better and stronger player.
