Personal Statement

For as long as I can remember I have loved playing baseball. The feeling of being a part of a team who works well together, works hard together, and has the same goal as each other is what I love about baseball. Through baseball I have learned what it takes to work hard and what it takes to work well with your teammates. Baseball has taught me respect for the game as well as others outside of the game. My work ethic from baseball has carried over to my academics. Baseball has taught me to understand the hard work it takes to do well in school as well as helping me work towards the rank of Eagle Scout in scouting. I want to go to college so that I can continue my academic career in pursuit of becoming an Environmental Police Officer as well as being able to play the game that I love. If I am not playing baseball I love be outside just as much as I love being on the field. Whether I am fishing, camping, skiing, or working with my uncle at his excavation and driveway business I enjoy spending that time outside. A career as an Environmental Officer will allow me to pursue my love of the outdoors and environmental conservation.

What I am sure all coaches who read this want to know, is what makes me different than other kids on my team?  I don't know that I am really all that different from my teammates and other 16 year old baseball players.  What I do know is that I am dedicated to working hard and I am very open to suggestions from coaches on how to improve my game. I have been told by many of my previous coaches that I am a very coachable athlete.   I enjoy working out in the off season, going into the cages and working on my swing, and expanding my pitching ability.  I want to understand my body and how it works, so I can improve my performance.  That is why I am an intern for our school's Athletic Trainer.  He is teaching me about injury care and prevention, strength and conditioning and sports performance.  I have already applied some of the techniques we are using to treat injured athletes to my own conditioning routine for injury prevention and strength training.

What I hope those that read this learn about me is that I am passionate about sports, improving myself and working hard as part of a team.  I know that I can be a successful student athlete at the collegiate level and I look forward to the challenge and opportunity.
