My name is Dylan Driessen. I've been playing baseball all my life and the baseball diamond is one of my favorite places to be. Ever since I first started playing select ball when I was 8, my favorite position has been pitcher. It's also always been my best position and the one I feel identifies me. Although I consider my fastball to be a good pitch, I believe what makes me a great pitcher is my ability to throw my curveball in any count.
Offensively I've always been a good hitter with a high batting average and good power. Freshman year was a bit of change for me, as I had to overcome my age. I am young for my grade and there was a big jump when going from 13U baseball to high school at Millard West, a school with a very competitive baseball program. I learned to be coachable and make adjustments as needed. Defensively I have come to enjoy playing third base and have enjoyed improving my foot work. This season and the rest to come, I plan on adding muscle in the weight room and continuing to develop my skills. I look forward to what I can learn from my coaches and teammates.
Academically I am a good student and hard worker. This year I am taking many honors and advanced placement classes. I try to challenge myself in school and on the field so that I can better myself in all areas. I enjoy serving others and believe that is an important part of character development, on and off the field. I believe realistically that I could do well at any college level and plan to find a good fit for my chosen degree program as well.
My high school has a student body of over 2000 students and I have no problem with the large size. I do feel like a small school may not be what I am looking for but I am always open to other possibilities. Regarding location, I would like to stay somewhere in the Midwest, but I believe I will fit in with any group of peers and coaches. I will choose the path that best fits me and my dreams for the future towards academics and my baseball career. I love baseball. The game has given me something to be passionate about, enriched my relationships with my family, and given me countless friends and mentors. I look forward to playing at the next level.
Thank you for taking the time to read my personal statement.
