In my middle school there was a baseball team and I wanted to be part of it. I did not know what were the requirements in order to join the team because of my lack of English. I have played baseball in the Dominican Republic since I was three years old, and love the game. I spoke to my best friend who was a part of the team and knew English and he introduced me to the coach. I spoke to the coach and was able to show my skills on the field. I was finally admitted into the team. When I was with the team I didn't speak a lot since I was shy and didn’t know a lot of English. But this didn't mean I didn't want to learn it . I used to go to an after school to a English learning program at my school called Rosetta Stone. It was a computer program where they taught us the basics of English. There were three lessons that you got to complete. The teacher would give us prizes. Every Friday whoever did the best during the classes throughout the week they will take part in a pizza party. They used to motivate us, and push us to try and learn English. By the time I was in seven grade I already knew how to read and speak English very well, wasn't shy anymore. I learned that the only way you can learn how to speak english is to try to speak and dont be shy and give it my best.
At the end of the school year my school used to throw a talent show but never went to it because I was shy and scared of talking in front of a lot of people. But this year was different. Now I know some English and i wasn't shy anymore. One day, me and my best friend Erick one day were practicing and Erick told bro do you wanna make a song to sing at the talent show this friday?'' I say to erick im scary im not sure if i can speak in english in front of all the people. But Erick said the only way you're going to lose your fear is by talking it head on so we started making the song. We invited 2 others to join us to make the song and they were out 2 baseball coaches.
