Personal Statement

My name is Mike Meleski and I am 5 ft 10 in. 145 lbs.  I currently attend Broome Community College, BCC,  in Binghamton, NY.   I am currently on the roster at BCC as a Team Captain and a LHP starter on the mound.  According to the NJCAA Division 3, I am 2nd in the Nation for Strikeouts per inning with 1.622, and I lead in the Nation with 60 Strikeouts, 5 times on the mound.  So far this season I've topped out at  88 MPH on the radar gun.  Although I am average in size, I continue to lift weights to bulk up and gain more strength.  I feel that my velocity will continue to increase as the season progresses. I have a fastball with good movement, a good slider that I rely on to throw strikes and a change-up that I use as an out pitch. I mix my pitches very well and am not afraid to throw any of my offspeed pitches in any count.  I also have very good control and can locate any of my pitches wherever I want.

During my senior year at Maine Endwell High School, I made the All-Conference team.   In 2010, Binghamton University was interested in me pitching for them for the 2010-2011 school year.  Unfortunately, I did not achieve a high enough GPA in my senior year of High School to be placed in their program at that time.  Knowing that a school of that magnitude was interested in my pitching, encouraged me to to push myself as hard as I could academically to a GPA of 3.06.  Not only is that what Binghamton University wanted me to obtain but more importantly, that is where I needed to be in order to see that I can do anything that I put my mind to. I feel that my work ethic and priorities have changed because of my passion  for baseball and because of the recognition I have received by many as a pitcher in baseball.  I am an individual who needs to work hard academically therefore, I do.

My plan is to transfer to a 4 year school in the fall of 2012 where I would like to Major in Sports Psychology.

Over the years, I have played for 2 travel teams, Local Leagues and have attended  a couple of showcases.  Along the way, I have made a reputation for myself on the field because of my hard work and knowledge of the game.  I have been contacted by colleges from Division 3 to Division 1 and would like to play for a Division 1 school.   I am a strong competitive player who knows the game .  I have also proven that I can make it both athletically and academically.  When I'm out on the field, I play to win with the expectation that on the field, I will always back up my team just as I would expect my team to back me up. I am a team player and my hope is that the college I play for is competetive, that players know the game inside and out and there is a good sense of team spirit, meaning that all players support one another.  I am a hardworker and I consider myself a student of the game.

If you are interested in meeting with me, my phone number is 607-341-6373 and my email address is [email protected].  Thank you for your time.

Thank you,

Mike Meleski
