Sports have always played a massive part of my life. Being raised by my parents which come from another country, their goal was to give me and my siblings the best. They’ve always instilled the importance of hard work, and not taking anything for granted. Ever since I was 4 years old, baseball was my life. My name is Jaime Barrios and I am fully dedicated to my academics and the game of baseball. Outside of school, I have reached and represented my other club at very high levels playing for my travel club, FHI Baseball Club. I was selected as a Under Armour 2019 Preseason All-American, in Mesa, AZ. I’m currently entering my 4th and final year at Holy Cross High School where I was a 4 year starter. By playing sports at such young age, and reaching these levels, this has played a big impact in my life. I classify myself as a leader and role model when I step on the field. I have gained leadership skills, become more mature in my game and life but most importantly developed teamwork.
Academics are probably most important to me and my family. My decision for picking a college/university will be heavily weighed on the desired major, International Business. At Holy Cross, I pride myself with having a 4.0 GPA throughout my 3 years and continuing through my first two marking period in my 4th year. Achieving, First honor and being on the Principal’s List for almost each grading period has been my main priority. Additionally, I know that being focused and prioritizing my academics, baseball, yearlong conditioning, and work will help me land a school that could that could continue to play on and off the field. I remember my travel club coach would say, “Your talents got you on the field, your grades will keep in the game.”
Along with my passion for baseball I also serve is the Vice President of the Student Government at Holy Cross High School where we listen to the student body’s complaints and issues and try to come up with solutions to make the student’s life more enjoyable and proposing them to the Principal and Dean. My Travel Club is heavily involved with the community and the importance of giving back. Each year we go to the Ronald McDonald House and put smiles kids and their families that are faced with serious illnesses. I bring toys, spend time, reading, playing and baking for the families staying at the Ronald McDonald house. Additionally, during the holidays I volunteer to deliver food to those people less fortunate for God Love’s We Deliver.
Through Baseball I’ve come to realize the amount of talent does not nearly compare to the hard work you put in on and off the field. I’m hoping I could find a college/university that would be a good match for me academically and allow me to help represent their baseball program.
