My name is Stephen Ierides and I am entering my junior year at Seaford High School, Long Island, New York. My first memory of my life was being present at Yankee stadium with my mother. The only detail I remember is the feeling of being somewhere special and wanting to come back for more. My trips to Yankee stadium, and becoming a baseball fan, continued throughout my life and I know that this was influential in me becoming a baseball player. My mother’s career at the collegiate level, both as a Physical Educator and Athletic Director, has also been an important influence. She has always encouraged me to be involved in physical activity and to experience a variety of sports at a young age. Throughout those years, baseball has been a constant and the sport that I have pursued. Since then, I have played T-ball, little league, travel teams, middle school and now, high school baseball. In the early years, I was a successful right-handed pitcher. Due to my team‘s need for a catcher, I was adaptable and skillful enough to assume that position. It was then when I realized that catching is my aspiration, and I have performed notably. Last season, I was fortunate to be selected to play on varsity level. There, I was given the opportunity to pitch, play right field, and primarily catch. Coach Milano’s encouragement and belief in me, has given me the confidence and motivation to work even harder and to be the best in my junior/senior years and in pursuing playing baseball at the collegiate level. I am a hard worker, both in the classroom and on the baseball field. I am an honor student and I will continue to be a scholar athlete. I work out daily to maintain and improve my fitness level in order to maximize my performance on the ball field. I am presently playing for B1000 Seminoles, in which I am the catcher and I pitch when needed.
