It is a pleasure and an honor to introduce myself. I was raised in New York and trained at a very young age the game of baseball.
Baseball has shaped who I am today. Not only has it taught me the mechanics of the game, of strategy, of grit in the face of adversity, it has taught me many an invaluable lesson about life, about leadership, about overcoming challenges through discipline, upon leading a team of brothers and inspiring the best in them.
I respect the game. I love the game. I dream of dedicating myself to a team. One of the aspects of the game I adore is the composure required to lead a team to victory. Passion has to be subdued by thought; and thought, on execution, in the spirit of teamwork, toward winning gracefully.
My father, my inspiration [along with my mother], was captain of SUNY Albany baseball team, who as an all-state athlete, appeared at the plate of Yankee Stadium. Two of my uncles were stars for the New York Giants and New York Mets, with my grand uncle, 'Papo Gonzalez', hailed as one of Puerto Rico's greats, who Clemente could not hit, who Cepeda admired. Sports, and especially baseball, is in my blood, as I write to you in hope of playing for your school.
But most of all, the game has gifted me memories of achievement and camaraderie that will last a lifetime -- memories I look forward to making with your team, should I be so very fortunate.
