I appreciate the opportunity to share a vision for my future with the college that I wish to continue my education. I am excited to have made the decision to apply for admission to College. The following essay will compile my growth as a child, values as a teenager and desires to learn how to make a difference as a young man and further my ambitions as a young adult through baseball.
At the bright eyed age of five my parents started involving me in multiple sports. Their love for sports originated with my dad who played football and baseball in college and my mother who is an avid tennis player. Even though I did not realize it, their involvement in local recreational organizations became the foundation that I will build my future on. We were always going to or from a field and or gym. I became a “field or gym rat”. Their volunteered time consisted of board positions such as Baseball Director, Fundraising Coordinator, Field Improvement Director and baseball/basketball/football coach. This commitment to give all they had was rewarded and recognized when the 8 year old Machine Pitch team that I played on and my father coached won the Southeast Regional Championship. This inspired me to succeed. I witnessed their desire to create opportunities for less fortunate when they formulated, submitted, presented and created a Pop Warner Football organization. This allowed over 250 youth in our area the opportunity to play football. I distinctly remember helping my father hand out equipment to kids who otherwise would have never experienced the game. I remember seeing him place helmets on their heads with eyes wide opened and smiles from ear to ear. He would tell them, “This is your armor”. I saw early on that giving to others less fortunate produces a sense of accomplishment that would be my calling.
As a freshman in high school I started building on these values through my faith formation, developing a sense of giving and community service by attending Charlotte Catholic high school. By exercising my faith on and off the field I started building a true hardworking, loyal, dedicated, determined and caring way of life. I was exposed to local organizations such as Holy Angels, IFL (Inner Faith League), Shriners-Meal on Wheels, Assistant Coach-OnDeck Baseball Academy and Camp Instructor-South Charlotte Sports Report. Throughout high school I have come to cherish the times in the local community when I have been able to give back. I do all of this for "the love of the game."
Since my involvement in travel baseball at 10 years old, I have built the respect of local baseball organizations such as Kevin Hill-OnDeck, Jeff Mcneely-Megastars, Jeff Schaefer- CBC, Andy Partin-Dirtbags and local area competitive high school head coaches such as Mike Hennesey-Country Day, Mark Minute-Marvin Ridge, Hal Bagwell-Audrey Kell, Jim Serbie-Providence Day.
I am looking forward to the opportunities that College will allow me to reach out locally nationally. With a completed education and a major in International Studies with and an opportunity to possibly study abroad, I hope to share my passion internationally.
