Matt Gearhart '22 Recruiting Profile

Hello Coach,

My name is Matt Gearhart and I am in the class of 2022. I am a catcher, third baseman/second baseman, and right hand pitcher. Baseball has been the game I have been playing since I was 4 years old, and it is the game that I have fallen in love with and want to play forever. For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to be a great baseball player.

One of my many goals in life is to, one day, be a collegiate baseball player and hopefully beyond.  No one knows how long my baseball career will last, that is why I am looking to get a quality education for my life after baseball. I am looking for a school that can provide a quality competitive baseball experience, values player development, a great campus setting, and quality academics.

This past year I have put all of my effort and energy into my schooling and into my training, both to prepare me for the next level.  I enjoy the weight room, training, and the preparation it takes to be ready for the season. I think hard work is the true separator of individuals. I have changed as a student and as an athlete since I began high school.  I know a person can never be truly satisfied, because if they do the world will pass them by. I know I have some work to do to reach my goals. During the Covid-19 pandemic not playing baseball was motivation for me to work harder than I did before.  Something important to me was missing from my life during the quarantine.  I am confident in my work ethic, my abilities, and my academics. My confidence is why I am here today. If you give this kid from Dayton, Ohio a chance, I promise you won't regret it.
