2023 HighlightsThe moment I completed my first rowing camp as a pre-teen, I was addicted. I love rowing and love being on the water. I personally consider myself to be a very self-competitive person. I have played sports my entire life and I can not see myself stopping when I graduate high school. I am currently in my fourth year as a varsity rower in my program and I have been in the top boats since my first season. This exposed me to competitive rowing very early and has altered my already hard expectations of myself. I am a team captain at my program and have been the 1v stroke seat ever since I started varsity.
My program only has 23 other boys on the team. This makes our program small both compared to other clubs and our female counterparts. We have also only been a sweeping program for the last four years and I am one of the first rowers to have extended experience sweeping in the program. This has forged in my teammates, and myself, a sense of being an underdog. Through every year we rapidly improve and beat clubs we have never beaten before.
The best way I could describe myself towards rowing is hungry. I am hungry to make my program beat clubs we've never beaten before. I am hungry to improve myself and my abilities on and off the water but most importantly, I am hungry to row in college and compete in larger competitions I have never had the chance to compete in before.
I am also a member of my high school's Information Technologies program. I am of only 24 other students selected for this program. Our I.T. program is highly regarded in the region, and later this school year I will have a chance to prove myself in programming competitions. I am heavily interested in heading into careers in I.T. but more specifically, computer science. Along with my I.T. program, I am taking all AP and Honors classes and I am confident in my academic ability to soon produce high scores on the ACT and SAT later this year.
