My name is Brayden Bowman. I am 16 years old and I am entering college with the Class of 2024. I attend high school at Harriton High School in Lower Merion, PA. I have been playing baseball for as long as I can remember, starting around three playing tee-ball, moving to little league, then several travel teams, and ultimately playing middle school and high school baseball. Unfortunately, COVID impacted my freshman year high school season, which was a bummer because I made the upperclassmen team as a freshman. Baseball means so much to me and not just for the game, but for the opportunities it has given me including traveling to different states to play, playing in high competition travel games, meeting new people on my teams and on other teams, opportunities to become a leader, and being coached by some great people. I recently just returned from the Marucci World Series in Baton Rouge, LA.
Baseball has also taught me dedication to other areas in my life, including my grades. I currently have straight As throughout high school. Baseball, particularly pitching, has also taught me how to stay cool under pressure and the importance of the team and not just myself, even though as a pitcher, you always feel a bit more pressure. Learning to depend more on your team helped me to be a better pitcher.
Ever since I stepped on the field, I knew I wanted to do this at least through college and longer if I put in the hard work. Playing and competing with and against friends and fellow athletes has always brought out my competitive side. I have a drive to always do my best, learn what I can from fellow players and coaches, but most importantly never forget that baseball is fun. I want younger children to experience this fun too, which has led me to do some coaching of little league players and neighborhood kids.
I take my sports seriously putting in some form of training almost every day, including team workouts; individual pitching, hitting and agility sessions; watching videos about the game; as well as a lifting program. The longer I play and the more I learn about the sport, the more I aspire to play baseball in college and beyond. While I have played a lot of other sports, baseball is the game I love to play and pitching is my best asset. My coaches appreciate my fast and curve balls and they use me for tougher competitors, to close out games even when I do not start, and save me for championship games in tournaments. I want to bring my pitching to the next level and I dream of playing in college.
