Hi Coach. My name is Leo Stein, I am sixteen-years-old and am a 2023 graduate of Harriton High School in Bryn Mawr, PA. Baseball has always been a big part of my life. I have loved playing it since the moment I first stepped onto the field during tee-ball and I always play with a smile on my face. Part of the reason I enjoy playing so much is because of the competition. I am an extremely competitive person and throughout my lifetime, I have played with and against many talented players. This has caused me to always want to be the best player on the field, and I work hard every day to make that a reality. Whether hitting, lifting, fielding, or throwing a ball around, I am constantly working to improve my game in any way possible. Because of that, I am also a very coachable player. I ask questions, listen to what coaches have to say, and try to incorporate it into my game. If someone has something to tell me that will help me become a better player, I want to hear it.
Not only do I work to improve the physical parts of my game, but I also take pride in my mental awareness and baseball instinct. While the physical components of baseball are important, the mental aspects of the game are also something that every good player needs to be aware of. On the field, I always try to know what is going on around me and where I need to be. I chose shortstop as my primary position because I enjoy the strategy required to be successful at that position. Additionally, baseball can be a frustrating sport in which it is difficult to stay mentally composed. I know that I have to be mentally tough in order to compete at a higher level. I have learned how important it is to put the past behind me and focus on the task at hand.
My strong work ethic in baseball has translated to other parts of my life including academics, for which I have been able to maintain a 5.0 GPA. I try to be a leader and a team player on the field and in the classroom, and I love to help others. That is why I participate in the Challenger Sports program which helps children with special needs play sports, and also work during the summer to coach younger children play baseball.
In the end, my dream is to play baseball in college, and I know that I will have to continue working hard every day in order to make that dream a reality. I understand that it is important to keep my academics up, and to work on both the physical and mental aspects of my game in order to become a better player in any way possible. I always try to give 110% no matter what, and will continue giving it my all to make my dream come true. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
