Thank you first for taking the time to visit my profile. I am a 2021 center fielder at Chapin High School located outside of Columbia, SC. I also play football on our varsity team as a cornerback and basketball in my church league during the winter to stay loose but rest my throwing arm. Recently I joined Team MaxBat's National Showcase team. It was great playing baseball across the country.
My great-uncle played for the Atlanta Braves and the Texas Rangers, and my cousin played for the San Diego Padres so my motivation is to get the chance to follow in their footsteps one day starting at the college level.
I am a versatile player with experience at every position on the field, however my strength is center fielder. Last season, from center field I threw out three runners at the plate including a game-winner, and three at third. At the plate, I’ve worked very hard on staying back on change-ups and jumping on fastballs. My batting average and QAB% is normally in the top 1-2 on our team. This has earned me the 2-3 spot in the lineup. My freshman team coaches selected me as the Team MVP at our post-season baseball banquet.
Outside of school and travel ball, I am involved in supporting my school and helping my community. As a member of the Student Council, I've represented my school at Southeast Regional, State and District conferences where I learned important leadership skills. I was voted as sophomore class President for 2018-2019, Student Body Treasurer for 2019-2020 and now Student Body Parliamentarian for 2020-2021. In the community, I assist those with special needs who are participating in athletic events. I also volunteered at our local Little League as a baseball umpire.
At this time, I'm planning on a career in public affairs or medical equipment sales. My ideal major would be public relations, communications, or marketing. The size of school and town are not critical factors to me. I prefer to play for coaches that demand 110% from their players. I am a very hard worker and take pride in doing the best I can in school, on the field, and at home with my family. My personality is friendly, great sense of humor, laid back, and loyal.
Feel free to follow and reach out to me with any questions if you would like more information.
Yours,
Gavin McMillion - Chapin High School, CF, 2021
