Personal Statement

Hi, my name is Masen and I have had a passion for baseball ever since I could walk. I am from Mitchell, South Dakota. It is a small Midwestern town, but I am not going to let that stop me from fulfilling my dreams of playing college ball or, hopefully, at the professional level.

Besides baseball, I enjoy working on cars and spending time hunting and fishing outdoors. Whether it’s fixing a transmission or tracking a deer, I am a very hard worker that will not stop what I am doing until the task is completed.

I really enjoy the feeling of competing on the diamond, especially on the mound. My primary positions are pitcher and outfielder, but I also rotate in on first base and as catcher. In my baseball career, I have played every position. I am a sophomore in high school. I pitch, field, and bat left-handed, but I’ve worked on switch hitting. As a batter, I have an excellent eye . My on-base percentage is 0.900, and I am typically in the top batting position.

Masen asked that I write a baseball review on his behalf. I was Masen's youth baseball coach for three years and continued to follow his progress into teener ball. I enjoyed coaching Masen. He worked hard and had good attitude. He was always exceptionally courteous towards his teammates and coaches. He was and continues to be a utility guy that is capable of playing various positions in the field. He is always willing to learn and advance his knowledge and skills. For youth ball we moved players around a little and now a couple years into teener he has proven himself to be a very effective lefty pitcher and left or center fielder. He's not afraid to throw on catcher gear from time to time either. As a pitcher, he has very nice off speed pitches with good control. He excels in the outfield with his speed and accurate throws to the in-field. Masen has found himself in different positions in the batting line up as well. I think Masen is a quality hitter. He gets on base regularly. We had him in the lead-off spot for several games in youth ball. He has always done well at making contact and his power progresses every year. I look to see Masen continue improving his game year to year. He is a dedicated young athlete willing to put in the extra time. Sgt. Pitching and Catching camp will include instruction from the SDSU coaching staff including Rob Bishop (Head Coach), Mitch Mormann (Pitching Coach) and Danny Higginbotham (Catching Coach). They bring a combined 30 years of successful coaching experience. Campers will be separated by age group and will include an overview of pitching and catching for youth players. Older players will receive instruction in a practice format very similar to a normal day in the life of a Jackrabbit pitcher and catcher. This is an instructional camp with the goal of providing every player with top-notch instruction and feedback for their personal improvement.
