I started baseball at a young age and played with a recreational league here in Austin. My natural talent made me better than the kids at that level and I never worked outside of team practices. Moving into select baseball I had the same mentality and started to drift behind the other players. I was not improving at the same rate and began to become one of the worse players on the team. Then, I met coach Mamon Tucker at Tier 1 baseball in Austin and I realized that if I wanted to achieve my goals of playing baseball at a higher level I would have to change my work-ethic. I began working a lot more at home and with the coaches to improve my playing all around, and quickly got better. I was practicing all the time and working out to improve and change my body so that I could get to the first step of the journey and become a starter on my varsity high school team.
This experience of putting in the work and getting rewarded for my efforts has taught me a lot in the game of baseball, about myself, and has even translated academically. From the experience, I now am motivated to becoming a good student and take advanced classes along with working towards being a good athlete and team-member, and the work is translating as I am slowly getting closer to the goals I have set for myself.
