Greetings, My name is Patrick O'Connor and I currently attend Vandegrift High School, in Austin, TX, as a senior. I was born on April 18th, 2002 in Raleigh, NC. I am a 6'5", 200 lbs right-handed pitcher with a consistent velocity of roughly 83 mph topping out at 86. My favorite part of being a pitcher is the battle of skill, wits, and mental toughness that goes on between the batter and myself. I have been a part of a baseball team, whether it be coach pitch, kid pitch or select, every Spring, Fall, and Summer season since I was six and as soon as I was able to join kid pitch I began pitching. My goal going into every season I have ever played was to be the best pitcher on that team by the end of the season, especially because I have been fortunate enough to consistently play with age groups higher than my own. I pride myself on working harder than anyone on my team, I feel satisfaction beyond anything else when a coach or teammate that I respect tells me that I am the best pitcher on the team. I can attribute much of my success to the countless hours my family and coaches have invested in me. I hold such respect for baseball and the people who have taken the time to learn the game, I push myself to learn the game every day through the charts that I take for my high school team or through the games I watch on SportsCenter and ESPN with my father.
When it comes to college my must-haves are a Biomedical or Electrical Engineering major or a Pre-Med course because my aspiration is to become an Orthopedic Surgeon or a Biomedical Engineer. I would love to go to a school with a population of ten thousand to thirty thousand. My goal has always been to play collegiate level baseball and my coaches have frequently told me that I have the potential to be a Division 1 athlete, I understand though that there is competitive baseball to be played at any level of the NCAA, and I look forward to working with any coach who deems me good enough for their program.
As for my achievements, I have been a 2-year varsity pitcher and as a sophomoreI was intermittently invited to travel with the varsity and pitch in their games. It was extremely humbling knowing my coach trusted me enough to allow me to pitch against the other 6A schools in our district. Every other player on the varsity respected me and acknowledged the work I put in, I believe the experience I have will assist me in not only making it to the college level, but excelling at it. I am always the loudest in the dugout and I make it a priority to form relationships between all of my teammates, and my coaches are always impressed by my willingness to put everything down for the team. In conclusion, I would like every coach to know that I am willing to put in the work necessary to thrive in not only their baseball program, but in their college as well. Respectfully submitted Patrick R. O’Connor
