Opening Statement - Baseball
I first started playing baseball when I was three years old. I joined a select team when I was 5 and played with them, Slam Baseball, until my Coach decided that he found a better opportunity for our baseball program, our 13u year. He decided that Twelve Baseball based in College Station would offer our team more benefits in the long run in regards to training and help for players who wanted to play at the next level. This change was the turning point in my career. I observed so much talent amongst Twelve Baseball players and I realized that I was a little behind. So, I worked harder. I focused on improving my 60 time, I worked long toss to improve my arm velocity, I worked out harder, I did things that I didn’t love but I did them because I knew they would make me a better athlete. I cleaned up my diet, I worked on getting more sleep, I started studying players I aspired to be like. Now, I believe I can compete with anyone.
I believe my situation is a very unique one. I attend a small private school that offers many successful, competitive athletic programs but baseball is not one of them, we’re simply too small right now. My parents and I thought, prayed, discussed long and hard about what would be best for me in the long run. How would not playing on a school team hurt my chances to play at the next level? We counseled with many people but in the end we agreed that we did not want to sacrifice the path I set many years ago. See, I have been at the same school since I was 3, my sister graduated from this school as valedictorian and has been very successful in college. I, currently, am number 3 in my class and I believe in regards to my education and future, this school is the best one for me. So, I train daily with trainers and coaches to improve my baseball skills. I play fall ball and summer ball with my Twelve team. I do my best to play competitive baseball every opportunity I get.
I want to attend a school that helps me further my academic goals and athletic goals. Throughout my years of playing baseball, I have learned many things: leadership skills, strong work ethic, perseverance and the mindset of a winner. Having these many skills and characteristics help me to be a better ball player but also make me confident in knowing that I have what it takes to play at the next level.
