I have been playing baseball since I was five years old. Ever since I watched my older brother from the stands as a toddler and then became his team’s batboy, to wanting to be better than him and make him and my family proud, I have fallen in love with baseball. It has been my dream and goal to play college baseball. As I have matured over the years, I know how important a strong work ethic, solid mental toughness, and an intense dedication to reach my goals are needed to succeed as a student-athlete playing baseball at the college level.
One thing that I love about baseball is that it is a team sport but with individual contributions. As an individual baseball player, my swing is known for being compact, having quick hands to the ball, and generating lots of power from my lower half. As a catcher, I pride myself on receiving the ball with the least glove and body movement possible to steal strikes. I block the ball, willing to sacrifice my body to prevent the runner from advancing 90 feet. And I stay compact with quick feet and hands to throw runners out. As a team player, I led by example and through my faith. I encourage and motivate my teammates in positive ways, always seeking to be coachable, hungry, and humble.
As a two-sport athlete playing varsity baseball and football in my first and second years of high school, athletics has always been a big part of my life. However, my education is as essential or even more significant. Education is one thing my family has always been big on. As a Hispanic, I have seen the opportunities my parents have gained from getting a higher education. Their struggle for a better life has ignited in me a strong desire to get my degree no matter what. This motivates me to be the best student-athlete I can be in the classroom and in my community.
That is why I am open to all options as I look for a college that will best fit me academically and athletically as I pursue my academic interests in Sports Medicine, Education, and Business. I also want to attend a college where I will be able to contribute positively to its success.
