My name is Riley Bost. My collegiate goals are first to find a place that is the right fit for me as well as the school. I want to be on a campus that I can bring a positive influence to. At this time, I have not decided upon a specific career path, but I do know that my main goal is to pursue a life and career of leadership where I can make a difference in my community and world.
I am a good candidate for a coach and a team, because I am a learner. I believe I have a high ceiling of growth. My hope is that a college coach would want me more for what value he sees in me that he can bring out and develop, not just what he sees on the field today. I am a dedicated person to my education, baseball work, as well as my personal spiritual development.
I am not sure what specific things would separate me from other recruits. I try not to compare myself to others when it comes to baseball skills or character issues. I do have influences in my life that I follow, but I do not see myself as better than anyone else. Different possibly in my character and work ethic. I do not lie, or cheat. I value and submit to authority, and I love my neighbor. I am pursuing career not for myself but to be in a position to help others in life. As far as athletic differences, I assume that all athletes at this level work hard. For me it is difficult as a home school student because I do not have the resources of a public school. I have to push myself to get to a gym, pursue and pay for a strength trainer. So a difference in my athletics is that I know what it is like to view my sport and preparation as an investment. For me baseball is not a time for me to hang out with friends because most of my practice and training is done on my own. It is my choice, my heart, my financial investment and my desire.
Academically, I have to pursue that as well. No one makes me go to class, or do my work. Most athletes my age if given the chance may skip school, a practice or a class. I choose each day to pursue my education. I am not limited to time constraints of a classroom or a schedule of a classroom, so I am able to set a goal of learning and applying not just "passing' a subject.
I currently am highly involved in my church and participation in what many people know as community service. I am actively involved in outreach to the Navajo Reservation of Arizona. I am involved in many ways of reaching out and giving back, but my main goal there is to build relationships, be a friend and let kids and teens know they are not alone.
I am also involved in working with the homeless in the Dallas area. I serve monthly in a kitchen, and also in speaking to the men. I have been doing this for the past 7 years and have made many friends in the homeless community. I have led a coat and sock drive in my community for several years that seems to be very fruitful for the homeless as well as those I recruit to be involved.
My goal is to fully accomplish all that I was put on this earth to do, and I believe that baseball and education are roads that will lead me to that destination.
