My name is Michael Smith, but I prefer to be called Mikey. I currently attend Weiss High School in Texas and I am scheduled to graduate in May of 2024. My passion for baseball began at the age of 6, which is when my Mom told me to "just try it". It didn't take long to fall in love with the sport. Like most kids, I have always had a dream that one day, I will go pro. Shortstop has been my primary position since I was 6 years old. I understand the game and know a lot about the game, read the ball well on the field, and have quick footwork. Aside from shortstop, I also play second base, center field, and left field when needed.
During the last 11 years of playing baseball, I have learned the importance of being a team player, and how to be adaptable. I have gained emotional control and I respect all players, coaches, and fans. Every day I strive to be better than I was the day before but most importantly I always try to have fun.
For as long as I can remember, I have been self-motivated, not only in athletics but also in academics. I believe going to college is going to be a personal growth period for me and I am ready for it. My goal in college is to, not only play baseball but also explore physical education to pursue becoming a high school athletic coach. I would like to attend a college that challenges me both on and off the field. I believe in myself and I know with hard work and dedication, I will be successful.
I have been told by many family members and friends of mine that I am an inspiration due to my commitment, discipline, and will to keep pushing forward, despite any challenges I have had to face. I would like to become a role model for my younger siblings, someone they can look up to, and also make my Mom proud. With my determination, motivation, and enthusiasm, I do not doubt in my mind that I can go on and have a successful baseball career coaching kids who were once, just like me.
