My name is Eric Lopez-Mason. I am of Hispanic and Caucasian descent and originally from Woodland Hills, California. In 2017 when my aunt received a promotion in her Western Governors University position, I moved to Salt lake city Utah. Since a young age, I have had a sincere passion for athletics, such as baseball and football. As a first-generation college student, I am continuously striving to improve in school. I currently have a 3.28 Cumulative GPA.
In my life, I have endured many trials. When I was three-years old, both of my parents were incarcerated, so I was forced to live with my grandparents. When I began to become accustomed to living with them, they passed away within two years of each other from cancer. Since then, I have lived with my mother's sister and her husband. Although I have had a rough life, my aunt and uncle make sure to provide me with a great life as they continue to support me in my extracurricular activities.
Although these trials were hard to overcome, they taught me lessons that have helped me become the motivated person I am today. I have learned how to make wise choices, stay out of trouble, choose and nurture my relationships carefully, and to not affiliate myself with vices. These challenges have helped me prepare for the future. In essence, I know I need to stay in school and go to college so that I can live a prosperous life. Due to my life's journey and the lessons that have been ingrained within me, I am confident that I can accomplish my goal of being a first generation college student.. Although both of my parents dropped out of high school, I am fortunate to be on a better path enroute to high school graduation. As a first-generation college student from a low-socioeconomic background, I am determined to utilize my talents scholastically and athletically in order to fulfill my potential.
