I have high expectations for myself, both in the classroom and on the field. I am eager to find a college that continues to challenge me academically and provides me the opportunity to excel on the baseball field. My strength has always been that when the game is on the line, my team knows they can count on me both on the mound and at the plate.
My sophomore year I earned the opportunity to play post season ball with my varsity team. I did so by throwing 18.1 innings with 31 strikeouts, .000 ERA, with only two walks. I earned back to back offensive player of the year awards delivering a .594 batting average. My first opportunity on the mound with the varsity team was in the regional semifinals which was a single elimination game. I was brought in to pitch the last two innings and I closed the game allowing no hits and no runs. Two days later we played the regional championship game where I earned the save. I pitched the last inning helping advance us to the state championship tournament. At the state tournament I earned the starting position at third base. Unfortunately, we did not come home with the state championship.
My junior year I was voted Captain by my coaches and teammates. I was selected as the Most Valuable Player for the season, earned James River District Player of the year, and selected first team all-district third base in addition to pitcher, and first team all-region pitcher. I achieved this recognition by pitching four complete seven inning games with three shutouts against the top two teams in our district. I finished the season throwing 51.1 innings with 63 strikeouts, 1.36 ERA, with only 9 walks and a pitching record of 7-1.
I have been blessed with many successes on the field, but baseball also teaches us to be humble. I have learned not every game will go your way but how you react to those ups and downs is how you grow as a player and a person. I pride myself on being a team player, keeping a positive attitude, working hard every day and letting the results of that hard work speak for itself. Thank you for your consideration.
