I believe it is important to set goals that push physical and mental boundaries. Upon graduating from high school with honors, my college goals are to play baseball while pursuing a teaching degree. The discipline needed to be a student athlete has given me the tools needed to educate students while showing them that with dedication and focus they can achieve their full potential.
Seen as a leader both on and off the field, putting work on pitching/hitting outside of practice on my own has helped to get an edge on the competition. Today motivation to improve needs to be found inside yourself. Athletically I am known for my accuracy, multiple pitches, being well conditioned, and having mental focus to remain in control of the next pitch. On a more personal level, I’m upbeat, get along with everyone, care about my family, my classmates, teachers, team and community. My mindset is that hard work, determination, and positive thinking leads to positive outcomes both on and off the field.
My maternal grandfather has had a huge impact on my interest in baseball. His love of the game from playing through his college years and then coaching at the high school level are contagious. Over the years my dad has been very involved - helping coach, finding me additional opportunities and getting me where I needed to be for practices and games. I was hooked once I started tournament / travel team play in elementary school. Playing competitive baseball for 7 years has taught me that every play, practice, drill that I do counts and needs to be taken seriously to better the end result.
Mother Nature has been a big obstacle for me. Wisconsin does not always have great weather for practicing baseball but I’ve found creative ways to train and do extra work during the various seasons. During tournaments, both close to home and in at least 8 other states, I’ve pitched in all kinds of weather, snow flurries, 100 degree days, misty/pouring rain and ninety plus percent humidity. No matter what the location or weather, I've always enjoyed the competition and team aspect of the game. My end goal is to continue to grow as a student athlete through the rest of high school and into my college years.
