Field Hockey was never a big sport in the area I grew up in. Most kids, along with myself, were playing soccer, basketball, softball, or volleyball. However, it was fairly popular in high schools and was available at the school my older siblings attended. My sister Stephanie is the person who inspired me to play field hockey. Growing up I would watch and support her at all of the games, lighting my spark of interest for the sport. Eventually it was my turn to attend high school and begin playing field hockey. Being new to the sport was a struggle that had many obstacles, but I immediately fell in love with it and have been playing nonstop ever since.
Through field hockey I have learned skills that not only help me on the field but also in the classroom and the real world. I have learned how to be a good leader, to be a supporting shoulder that teammates and friends can lean on, to always give 100% in what I do, and to leave everything on the field (or in classroom). Because of field hockey I am a bright, confident, brave, and compassionate person striving to succeed in high school and college. It is extremely important for me to not only have the opportunity to compete at the collegiate field hockey level, but also receive a strong education from a college that will set me up for success in life.
