Hello my name Is Angela Fortuno, I began playing field hockey my 6th year for my middle school field hockey rec team. At first I started playing because I was bored with my sport (competitive cheerleading). I wanted to try something new and I found it really fun. Field hockey came naturally to me. I took a break in between and also tried other sports: dance, lacrosse, etc. But field hockey had won my heart from the begining it was fun, competitive, and I was always learning and improving more. I seemed to have a natural talent and I very much enjoyed playing and practicing. My freshman year I played for Tuscarora High School, I was overjoyed when I received mvp player on my jv team and the superlative, "best stopper award" sold it for me. That same summer my coach told me that If I kept practicing I could definitely have a spot on varsity. I ran every single day to maintain my speed and agility, and I practiced every single day too. When tryouts came about sophomore year I was told that I had earned my spot on varsity. I had competed against 10 seniors on the varsity team, and secured my spot as a starter. That same year our record was 10-3, 2nd place conference team, and we made school history by beating one of our big rivals Middletown High school for the first time ever. Towards the end of my sophomore year I endured an injury that set me back quite a bit. I was struggling for a bit to get my head back in the game and I found myself hesitating a lot. But my love and appreciation for field hockey was so strong it overcame every obstacle. Field hockey had always been there for me and I now I needed it the most. This sport has given me some of my most memorable moments and I've created some amazing friendships through the sport. I also learned a lot about my capabilities and how much I praise all that the sport has done for me. I worked hard and I returned my junior year and was was granted team captain. This year (2019) in fall I will be a senior and my goal would be to become committed to play field hockey. My hope is to play field hockey for a couple more year while I still can.
