My name is Julia Gordon and I am a goalkeeper from Andover, Massachusetts. I play both high school and club field hockey.
During my Sophomore season at Andover High School I was the starting goalkeeper for the JV team, but it was in my role as back-up for varsity that I truly learned what it was like to be a team player. Being the back-up goalie for the varsity team was an invaluable experience that taught me the value of good energy, hard work, and patience. I approached the situation by being competitive in practice, but supportive as a teammate. I focused my energy on challenging the starting keeper in every drill, treating every practice as if it were a game, and always bringing a positive and supportive attitude to the field. At the end of the season, I had earned the respect of my varsity teammates and received the Coaches Award; an award selected by the coaches, given to the player who demonstrates the most leadership, sportsmanship, team spirit and skill throughout the season.
As a student I am conscientious with a 3.6 GPA on a 4.0 scale. I take honors classes. As a dyslexic student, my class levels and GPA reflect my strong work ethic off the field. My learning difference challenges me, but I give 110% to meet the challenge.
I believe my leadership and hard work would be an asset to any college field hockey program.
