I have been playing field hockey since I was eight years old. At first, I did not have a strong connection with the sport, so I wanted to quit. My mom, however, was one of the coaches in the league I was in and told me to try it one more season. She saw something in me that I couldn't see in myself at that age. The following summer, I absolutely fell in love with the game and haven't put my stick down since! When I'm playing, I feel confident, strong and accomplished.
I play defense, and block tackles have always been my strength. Because of my short height, I can get low very quickly in front of the play and usually stop the ball before the other team knows what happened. My drives are very strong and I work on them continuously. Just like my love of studying, I love to practice and I try to get my hands on a stick anytime I can. I am a very coachable player. I listen, take instruction well and enjoy learning new skills.
Field hockey helps me academically as well. It pushes me to do better in school because I know I need to do well in all areas of my life, not just sports. I actually enjoy being in school and maintain a solid GPA. My favorite subject is social studies, specifically ancient history. I love to research and write essays. I hope to become a criminal psychologist one day because helping people gives me a deep sense of purpose in life and it makes me happy when I can help others.
