HI! My name is Destiny Cruz and I fell completely in love with field hockey my eighth-grade year. I began solely because a lot of my peers recommended I try it prior to my track season in the spring. The second I touched the ball with my field hockey stick, it became clear that this was my sport and since then it has stuck with me. I play on my Highschools' Varsity field hockey team and I am in a club team (Lead The Way) as well. My goals as a field hockey player are to meet all expectations, practice hard to play even harder, recognize my weaknesses and work on them in order to be as versatile as I can be to my team. I aspire to major in psychology and to later obtain a degree in criminal law.
My freshman year I was still working on understanding the sport but I learned quickly as I applied myself and registered for clinics and worked hard all season. Not too far into that season I began starting games and playing full games! I played as only a defender but towards the end of that season, I began trying out playing in the midfield and loved it. This season, I worked hard at all times and I learned even more about not only the sport but myself as a player. I began to think about and act on my path to play in college, and I've been following along ever since. During the off-season, I began experimenting more with positions as I really wanted to gain a full understanding in all of the positions on the field, which will help me play to the best of my ability in any position I am put in. I continue to mainly play offensive mid and defensive mid but I am comfortable anywhere I'm placed!
I truly believe field hockey has benefitted me in ways that are more than just physical. I learned what it was like to be on a team, meet new people with the same passion as I have, and the value of hard work. Field hockey has also helped me learn how to commit to my teams while also excelling in challenging high school courses. Now I have found a happy medium between my field hockey commitments and maintaining a 4.0 GPA. I am beyond excited for college, and the opportunities it will bring me!
