I am a member of the class of 2022 and a junior at Groton Dunstable Regional High School in Dunstable, Massachusetts. I started playing field hockey in the 6th grade after several injures in gymnastics caused me to consider playing a different sport. After first trying softball, basketball and field hockey it became clear to me that field hockey was my passion. Even though I was disappointed that I could not play the sport that I had been competing in since I was three years old, I was also extremely excited about starting my field hockey journey.
At first, I played every position in field hockey until my coach decided to place me at center midfield. I enjoyed using my communication, passing skills, and working with the team to play both an offensive and defensive game. As a center midfielder, I typically handle the ball more than other players, which allows me to make positive plays, but can also result in mistakes as well. Throughout the years I have found that one of my greatest strengths as an athlete and person is that instead of dwelling on my mistakes, I choose to learn from them. Over time this trait has not only helped my athletic development, but it has also helped me academically and in my overall life.
My goal as a field hockey player is to play to my greatest potential by not only improving my overall skills and fitness, but by helping each of my teammates find their strengths and use them to our advantage. Helping my teammates find their strengths in a positive environment and working as a team to achieve our goal resulted in my peers voting for me as captain of my 2021 high school field hockey team. As captain of my 2021 high school field hockey season, I look forward to using my leadership and communication skills to take our team to the next level.
While sports have always been a big part of my life, academics have always come first. I have always enjoyed learning and school and I was expected to work hard and achieve the highest results possible from a young age. As a result, I have taken 15 honors classes and 3 AP classes since freshman year and have a total GPA of 98.9. My overall objective in choosing a college is to find one that fits both my academic and field hockey goals while staying near my family, which is also very important to me.
