My name is Olivia Goeke and I am from St Louis. I have been playing field hockey for 7 years. I started field hockey in third grade when my friend brought a stick to school. I currently play for Aim Field Hockey.
During my freshman season at Ladue Horton Watkins High School, I made varsity and was a starting attacking midfielder. My team went on to have a 14-4 record. At the end of the season, I was selected as All Conference honorable mention, nominated by the coaches in the All American conference. Overall my first year playing with Ladue was a great experience, that helped me set future goals.
In the beginning of 2019, I participated in the USA Field Hockey Futures program. I went to Denver for Regional Futures Tournament and earned a spot in the National Futures Tournament. So, in June, 2019 I went to Lancaster PA to play in the U14 National Futures Tournament with other top players. This experience showed me what it was like to play a very high level with other skilled players and get coached by a college coach. I am a very hard worker on and off the field. I play and train for field hockey year round, play select soccer (my team is ranked #7 in Missouri) all while maintaining a 4.0 GPA average.
One thing that shows my character is my friendship with Molly, a special needs girl at my school. I first met Molly through field hockey and we immediately became very good friends. I love going out to lunch with her, face-timing her, and seeing her bright smile at school. Molly's passion to play field hockey despite her challenges is one of the factors that has made me love playing and want to work hard. She has taught me that how real friendships can be formed out of anything, helped me gain patience, and became more accepting overall.
My goals for college are to:
1. Find a school that challenges me not only on the field hockey field, but also in the classroom so I can work toward a successful future. Right now, I'm thinking that I may major in journalism.
2. Grow more on the field, become a stronger, more well-rounded player. In college I want to continue and get better, understand the game more, to help myself and my team.
3. Grow in character as a person and be a great teammate. I expect that the girls that I play field hockey with in college will be my friends for life.
4. Stay committed and involved in the game, and always be willing to learn, and to give back to the field hockey community.
