At the end of sixth grade I was told that in the upcoming year we were able to try out for a sports team. Going through the list of sports for the fall season I came across a sport called field hockey. My sixth grade self had no clue what field hockey was but it intrigued me. I was so excited to try a new sport so I begged my mom to buy me everything I needed for the upcoming tryout. Once I picked up the stick everything changed. No one in my family had ever played field hockey before so it was finally something that was completely and purely mine. I felt like field hockey was my place to escape and be myself. Entering my freshman year, I tried out for my high school team. That week in August I did nothing but my hardest, I pushed myself at tryouts to show what type of player I was. At the end of that week I was pulled over by my head coach and was told I made the varsity team. That day changed my mindset on field hockey forever. It showed me my hard work paid off and I have what it takes. Over the years my passion for field hockey just kept growing and I'm now a 3 year varsity player in my junior year of high school. Even though our school is not as experienced and doesn’t win as many games as other schools in our section, we have lots of heart and determination which has led us to win many games this season. On the field I try my absolute best to always hustle when I’m playing because I know if I’m not there’s someone else who will. On the sidelines I am always cheering on my teammates and trying to make sure they feel good about their playing and know that someone is supporting them. The day I decided that I wanted to play at the collegiate level I knew that I needed to get more experience to benefit my playing skills and make me be more out there for coaches to see. By doing research on nearby travel teams I came across Long Island Field Hockey. LIFH has shown me the competitive side of field hockey I was looking for. My teammates on my travel team showed me family due to the love we all shared for the sport. It opened a new level of competition from school being surrounded by the passion we all shared which allowed us to all have a mindset of being the best versions of ourself for each other on the field in order to work together as a team to a win. Long Island Field hockey has brought me to many tournaments over the past 2 years and I am extremely excited to see what the next year brings in my field hockey career. I am extremely excited to take my field hockey career to the collegiate level and am excited to find a school that challenges me athletically and academically. My positive attitude and strong leadership skills would make me an outstanding addition to your team!
