Going into freshman year of high school, I was most excited to play a more competitive field hockey for my school team. During this year, I was placed on my school's Junior Varsity team. At first I was devastated, I thought for sure that I would make it to Varsity. However, I realized that I would still be playing field hockey either way, and I put my heart into the JV team. We ended the season undefeated, and I was awarded offensive MVP. The next year I was moved up to Varsity, and played just as hard. Although playing Varsity was a great experience, I feel that my time with the JV team has shaped me more as a player and a teammate. I made great friends with my teammates and my coach, and I realized that as long as I was playing hockey, I would be more than happy.
Field hockey has been a major part of my life for years, and I would like to continue this through college. I hope to have the same, enjoyable experience as I did on my JV team, while playing competitively like my club team. As I am looking for a school to play field hockey, I am also looking for a school with a priority of academics. Playing this sport is an amazing experience for me, but I would also like to keep focused on my grades in a school that is great for both.
