My whole life I have looked up to my older sister who showed me that hard work pays off. Since we were young we really enjoyed going out in the yard and passing around for fun. She sped up her training as she grew and ended up walking onto Cornell University's field hockey team. As I now grow, and my training gets faster, I am beginning to realize a few things about field hockey. Not only is it a physical sport that involves athleticism, it is also a mental sport that involves strategy and mental toughness. Since I have been very active all my life, the athletic part was a little easier to pick up on right from third grade when I started playing. It is the mental part of the game that I now realize takes much more work and dedication to progress in. It can only come with experience, and the more I have a stick in my hand, the more I learn.
My academic goals for high school are to receive my IB certificates, and get high grades on my AP exams, while maintaining a GPA that will allow me to get into competitive academic schools. So far in high school, one thing I am developing is leadership. I became more vocal and confident, which are traits every great field hockey player has. I’ve been told by coaches that I have exceptional vision of the field and can see things happen even before they do, making me a more reliable midfielder, able to move the ball quickly and to the right places. I have prided myself in what others have called "unmatched work ethic" and endurance which leads me to outplay my opponents. As I continue to grow, I know my mental and physical game will continue to progress, and I am excited to see how far they can bring me from high school all the way through college.
