Thank you for viewing my profile and getting to know me better. My name is Eva Mckelvey and I am in the graduating class of 2024. I started my athletic journey with gymnastics at 5 years old. When I started playing team sports in school I quickly realized that the team aspects of sports were something that I truly loved. I started playing field hockey in 7th grade. I was pulled up to Varsity in 8th grade. I continue to play Varsity Basketball and Lacrosse as well. I look forward to field hockey season and after the excitement of winning games, County Champtionships and States, I am thankful that I have travel hockey. I have participated in many tournaments throughout the year in PA and FL. One of the compliments I received from my Coaches was hearing I am coachable and very hard working. I take that to heart. I love working hard on the field and off the field, improving my skill, and enjoy the thrill of knowing I played a good game. I work hard to continue to grow as a teammate and person.
I am thankful for being given the opportunity to showcase my ability to play in showcases and tournaments, learn about different colleges and the opportunities to play in college. I could not imagine my world without it. The ability to play sports, more specifically field hockey, helps me to stay focused athletically and academically. As I explore the different colleges and levels of field hockey opportunities, I realize that I have more to learn and I am thankful for opportunities that give me that insight.
Outside of school and off the field I have been involved in volunteering for organizations that focus on including people with disabilities in recreational opportunities as well as an organization that focusses on mental health in youth. Both of these organization mean a lot to me, I have been volunteering with them for 3 years and hope to continue throughout my years in High School. I feel fortunate to have sport to keep my own mental health where I like it to me. When I see or hear about people who struggle with mental health, my wish for them is to find the same kind of thrill and stability that sports brings me.
I maintain a almost all As and a 91% grade point average while balancing sports and a social life. I love to hang out with friends, spend time with family, and work out. During my Sophomore season I was awarded SCFHCA all division as well as scholar athlete. This past season we finished our season as Long Island champions and were named NY State Semifinalists.
I welcome the opportunity to speak to you so that you can learn more about me! I look forward to having the opportunity to speak and/or meet with you in the near future. I can be reached at [email protected] or 631-603-5621.
